Dagger Froggy Review

Dagger Froggy is a roguelite survival game published by EastAsiaSoft and developed by Sulluco.

Achievements

While Dagger Froggy is considered an easy achievement or trophy game, it’s a bit longer than some others in the same category. Completion times will vary, but you can expect to spend around 4–6 hours to fully complete it. It’s also likely that future Title Updates will increase the Xbox Gamerscore value, so keep an eye out for those.

Gameplay

In Dagger Froggy, you play as a heroic frog trying to survive relentless waves of enemies determined to make you their next meal. Your main goal is to see how many waves you can survive on each map within a chosen time limit.

Core Gameplay & Progression

The game features four maps, though only one is available at the start. As you progress and purchase permanent upgrades for your frog from the in-game store, the other maps unlock. The fourth and final map includes a shadow boss frog at the end, adding a challenging twist.

You can choose to play each map for either 10 or 15 minutes, making this a great pick-up-and-play option for both short and longer sessions. Defeated enemies occasionally drop coins, which you can use to buy permanent upgrades. You’ll also earn coins based on how many waves you complete in each run.

Starting to get a little hectic …

At the start, your frog is armed with just a single dagger, which must be retrieved after each throw to be used again. This mechanic might throw you off initially—it certainly did for me—but there’s a short learning curve, and you’ll adjust quickly.

Upgrades & Character Unlocks

After each horde wave, you’ll choose from a variety of temporary upgrades—health boosts, shields, extra daggers, magnets, additional attacks, and more. Many of these upgrades also have permanent versions in the store. Once purchased, these permanent upgrades stick with your frog and activate at the start of every session, making future runs easier and more rewarding.

Another fun aspect of the game is unlocking new froggy characters. These are earned by leveling specific skills six times in a single run. Once unlocked, these new frogs come pre-equipped with the skills required to unlock them, adding more variety to your runs.

As you progress, enemy variety increases. Early waves are relatively easy, but later waves bring large numbers and even enemies that shoot, forcing you to adapt and refine your upgrade choices to suit your playstyle.

If you manage to level a skill to 10 during a run, it evolves into a more powerful version for the remainder of that session—a fun payoff for building your frog efficiently.

Final Verdict

If you’re a fan of roguelites, Dagger Froggy is definitely worth checking out. It’s a fun indie experience that gets easier as you upgrade, but still offers a satisfying challenge. I enjoyed testing how many waves I could survive within the time limit, and the steady progression made each run feel rewarding.
