Star Wars Bounty Hunter Review

Star Wars Bounty Hunter is a remaster of the 2002 game originally released for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. You play as Jango Fett, father of Boba Fett. I am playing the game on Xbox Series X.

Graphics, Gameplay and Sounds

Sound: As part of the remaster the devs of Star Wars Bounty Hunter re-did the sound and they did a good job. Although I’m not sure if just a system thing but this game’s sound was way lower than other games I play on Xbox. You’re mileage may vary with other systems, and obviously you can just turn up the volume.

Part of, and my favorite upgrade for the game is the controls. Instead of the original controls from the PS2 era, now Star Wars Bounty Hunter plays like a modern 3rd person shooter. This makes it much more accessible to a modern audience, but if you’re a sucker for nostalgia and like the classic controls you can also change them back to the original from the menu. It’s not all great controls though, jumping feels weird in the game. I can’t put my finger on it but it just didn’t feel natural.

Hunting bounties, the main reason we’re playing a game called Star Wars Bounty Hunter. While playing through the main missions of the game you have option to go after bounties in each area. Much like you’d expect you get paid differently if you bring them in dead or alive. I enjoyed it very much and makes you feel like a bounty hunter badass.

On top of the standard 3rd person shooter gameplay you have many weapons and gadgets at your disposal to catch the bounties, as expected of the notorious Jango Fett. There’s a scanner, rope and so many others so you can really live out your Bounty Hunter fantasy.

Much like other remasters of the same era, the visuals are a double edge sword. Star Wars Bounty Hunter looks like the original but it is up scaled, so don’t go in expecting a fully fledged remake. The textures generally look pretty good, but at the same time some of the areas look horrible. Especially in the darker areas. It made it very hard to see what I was doing at times and some character models felt like they were done half way which is a shame.

Final thoughts:

While I find the game really fun, I feel they could have done more with the remaster. Even with a lot of the improvements Star Wars Bounty Hunter still feels like a game from 2002. Not a terrible thing for a good game, but again they could have done a lot more.
