“BlindFire” is a first person multiplayer shooter where you play entirely in the dark. Depending mostly on your ears you compete against other players to win the round. Being careful not to be too loud, avoid light traps and knowing when to shoot are all big elements in “BlindFire”. “BlindFire” is developed and published by “Double Eleven”, this is their first original IP.

In “BlindFire” you can play in matches with up to 8 other players. With the game in early access, you have the option of 5 different arenas. Currently there are only 2 options for weapons, a pistol and a shotgun. You can choose from 2 gameplay modes, solo or team “Bodycount”. “Bodycount” is their deathmatch or free for all mode.

BlindFire has all the makings of a good to great first person shooter. Some of the things I really liked are the gameplay was good. Even though you are in the dark, there are objects on the board that give off light. You also get an echo that you use to help locate other players and objects on the map. The echo has to recharge, so you aren’t able to use back to back. I found it very useful during my gameplay to help figure out where other players may be.

Another thing I enjoyed was how quick the matches were. Most of the matches I was able to play lasted 3 – 5 minutes. I love being able to jump in and out of games. The matches consisted of 5 rounds. At the end of all the rounds, the player with the most wins, wins the match. As you go through the rounds, you will switch from a pistol to a shotgun. So in round 1 you have a shotgun and round 2 you might have a pistol.

The game also had some customization options for your character. You were able to change your characters skin tone, body type, backlight design and weapon skin. I imagine there would be more customization options once the game has reached full release.

With the game in early access I expect to see improvement going forward. During my time with BlindFire I did run into a few issues. Even though the matches didn’t last long, the wait time to get in a match could vary. A couple of matches I got in within a minute of selecting ready, a few times I had to wait over 5 minutes before I could get in the lobby. The longest time I waited was 10 minutes to get into a match. I was not able to experience the team “bodycount” match because the lack of other players.
The movement at times didn’t feel as smooth as other fps games. I get you don’t want to do a lot of running in BlindFire, but it should feel better. The shooting also felt a little off. There were a few times I was shooting at another player directly in front of me and didn’t feel like I was hitting my target. The movement felt the same whether I was carrying the shotgun or the pistol.
Even with those challenges, I enjoyed my time with BlindFire. I love the element of playing in the dark, the quick matches and can’t wait to see where the team at Double Eleven take this game.

BlindFire was played on PC through Steam. Early access is also available on Xbox & PlayStation. The game is currently $8.99. We were given a code by Double Eleven.
